Who we are

What we collect

If you fill in the contact form we receive the name, email address, phone number, subject, and message you typed, together with the page you sent it from and the date and time.  That is all the form asks for and all it stores.

We do not ask for and do not want payment card numbers, bank details, government identification numbers, or health information.  Please do not send them through this website.

The chat assistant

This site has an assistant you can ask questions of.  It answers from a set of answers written and checked by us; it does not learn from your conversation and it cannot see your account, your address, or anything else about you.

When it cannot answer something confidently, the question is kept so we can write the answer.  Before anything is written down, email addresses, telephone numbers, street addresses and long strings of digits are automatically removed from it.  We do not store your IP address, your browser, or any session identifier alongside those questions, and they are not linked to you in any way.

If you deliberately use the assistant to request an estimate, the details you enter are treated exactly like a contact form message: they go to the office as an enquiry and are used for nothing else.  Requests for an estimate are never added to the pool of questions described above.

The assistant checks live weather for the town you name from the National Weather Service, a United States government service, so that watering advice reflects real conditions.  Only the town or ZIP you type is used for that.  It never asks for, and this website never requests, your device location.

Why we hold it

Solely to answer you and to keep a record of what was asked.  We do not sell your information, rent it, or share it with anyone for marketing.

Who can see it

Messages are stored on the website server and emailed to the office.  Outbound email is sent through SMTP2GO, our mail relay, and the website is hosted and maintained by Pro Star Web Development, who can access the server in order to support it.

How long we keep it

Contact messages are kept while they are useful for answering you and for our own records, and are removed when they are not.  You can ask us to delete your message at any time by calling the office.

Website statistics

We count visits so we know which pages are useful.  This is done on our own server. We record the page visited, the approximate device type and browser, and the site that referred you.

We do not store your IP address.  Instead a one-way, salted code is derived from it that changes every day, which lets us count a visitor once per day without being able to identify you or follow you across days.  These records are deleted after about 13 months.

Google Analytics

This site also uses Google Analytics, which sets its own cookies and sends data to Google.  You can opt out using Google's browser add-on, or by blocking third-party cookies in your browser.

Other sites we link to

Some links take you to services we do not run, such as Google Maps and the Google review page.  Once you are there, their privacy terms apply rather than ours.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, the administration area requires a password, and stored messages are not publicly accessible.  No system is perfect and we will not pretend otherwise, but we take reasonable care of what you send us.

Children

This website is intended for adults arranging lawn care and property maintenance.  We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Your choices

You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted.  Call the office on (256) 506-9006 and we will deal with it.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of the page.
